The Job of a Neurologist
A neurologist is a doctor who focuses on assessing, diagnosing and treating illnesses, injuries or disorders of the brain and nervous system. Due to the complexity of the brain, most neurologists must complete a five-year residency or internship before becoming a full-time professional. In addition to being a neurologist, these physicians can advance on to become a neurological surgeon, which allows them to perform operations on the brain and spinal cord. This often requires seven years of residency, but offers a higher salary than a neurologist.
The salary range for neurologists is $190,000 to more than $250,000, while neurology surgeons have a salary ranging from $220,000 to $470,000.
