Careers in Oncology
A doctor or physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating cancer is an oncologist. They work with patients to control the spread of cancer while providing treatment to rid them of the cancer. Oncologists can specialize and provide treatment to specific types of cancer patients, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer and others.
Residency requirements for oncologists is five years, and most can expect to receive a salary ranging from $200,000 to $400,000 once they are a full-time professional. The job outlook for this particular specification of physicians is high due to the increase in the number of individuals being diagnosed with cancer and seeking treatment for the disease.
Look at the American Society for Clinical Oncology website, which is extremely informative. You'll find their journals there as well as information on common cancers such as melanoma, breast cancer, and lung cancer. Keep in mind, however, that this is not a consumer (patient) site.
