Start a Career in Urology

A urologist is a doctor who specializes in problems and diseases associated with the urinary tract. In addition, they are the primary doctors focused on the health and well being of a man's reproductive organs. Due to the fact urology is related to several other areas of medicine, most urologists spend five years in residency, where they gain experience in other specialty fields. These often include gynecology, internal medicine, and pediatrics.

Becoming a urologist is very competitive, as there are a limited number of spots available in residency programs. However, for those obtaining a spot and completing a residency, they can practice and earn a salary between $260,000 and $420,000.

Visit the American Urological Association website, which is a great resource for practicing urologists. To explore urology from a patient's perspective go to UrologyHealth.org. You'll learn about adrenal and kidney disease, bladder infections, cancer, the prostate, female urology, and a lot more.
